I think a better title for this thread would have been "TT or V8,Which Do You Prefer And Why?" Less provocative!!

Morgan, is it a "typical" TT drivers response to think you can categorise anyone into those type of categories just because of the car they drive?

How often do you take your performance TT to the track?

From what I can see, you haven't even got a result on Peter Scott's dyno chart.

really?..so, the V8 drivers are all fake lexus wannabes?

TT = For the power freaks who don't care for features, they just want a nice comfortable performance car.

i wont stereo-type TT drivers, who in many alleged 'fake lexus wannabees' eyes, could be the biggest hazards on the roads today...like younger'my dick is bigger than your dick' wannabee road heroes...but that would be stupidly stereotypical, wouldnt it...

Before someone says "But Morgan, the V8 is a perforamnce car too", It's NOT.

neither is the TT...ask any GTR, WRX, or even GTHO driver...

I like My TT for its performance and how silky smooth it goes about it's operation. It wasn't designed as a performance sports car but it fits the category quite well. The JASMA exhaust has a really good note too. V8's now they sound good too, my brother in law has an SLR 5000 with twin 3" pipes and it sounds great BUT the best sound is the sound of a Caribou's twin Radial's idling on a still day with the feathered props ticking over. Now, the sound of power, F111 few seconds into it's take of roll--- Afterburner kicks in with a crack and it roars off down the strip reeling of continuous thunder until it is out of site.
I was gonna leave it there but then found my shovel and had to have a dig.

V8's <=====> Caribou, nice throbbing powerful sound

Jet engines at zone 5 <====> TT's when their screaming you know their going somewhere fast.

V8's sound of low down torque and muscle
TT's sound of serious and frantic acceleration.

Or is it all just hot air...?

so if there is no substitute for cubes..can someone explain exactly what use does your extra cubes do? yet to see a v8 with extra cubes displace a tt down the quarter ..even with a supercharger..:-)

My care factor is so low it's not measurable. I don't cheat using racing fuel / removing air filters / removing all engine belts, I'm not welcome on such a chart.

Yes, it's rare to see a try hard Lexus wannabe loser TT driver, it's always the 40yo balding, fat wife owning loser types who want to recapture their youth by putting on some kind of an act that they have a lexus.

Seriously, go look, 4/5 lexus badged cars are older V8 owning members.

You don't cheat, heck, you don't even participate. But let's rectify that.

As a valued member of SC, I am inviting you to get your car dyno'd so it can be added to the list.

Getting some track day experience would be a good fun thing to do too.
Seriously, a look through the profile pics shows that Lexus badges are probably split about 50/50 on V8's and TT's.

And the badges don't say any more about a person than the engine type does.

No argument, I believe the GT-TL to be the ultimate Soarer experience, you get the looks, power, handling and a few nice little gadgets too, an overall light vehicle (When compared to other Soarers)

But, as Jason said, apples / oranges, I could never drive a V8, I have too much self respect and I don't drink enough beer to be elligible

But, after saying that, If I bought another Soarer it would probably be the newest na6 Soarer I could get.

I still want to either put Twin turbo's or a supercharger and a 6 sp manual into my active.
I think that would be the ultimate soarer without any question.

Granted you can easily extract more power from a TT, but the active just has the full package.
Very smooth and compliant in normal driving, but would be able to keep up with the most fanciest of coilovers if required. It has all the luxury items you could ever want packaged up in a sexy looking body. The computers and tricky things working the 4WS give it unholy levels of cornering ability and stability.

Again, It's up to the individual tastes of the individual, and I don't see how repeatedly bringing it up will ever solve the problem.
Still, it's a bit of fun to see everyone get so worked up over such a menial thing. :-)

I just realise I kinda missed the point as I am talking about the only V8 I've had any real experience with. I should drive a TT and the other models really before making comments.
Probably so should everyone else.

I spoke to AVO yesterday about TTing my V8 - "To do it properly with all the bells and whistles" = $25,000

Sure would be nice though

Dear Morgan,
thankyou for your flattering words :-(

Preparing for a drag, a circuit race or a dyno day is certainly different to preparing for a Sunday afternoon cruise. Weight reduction, burnouts, 4 point harness, race seats, horsepower adders, higher boost, custom tune ECU's, tyre pressure, tyre type, suspension components, all are varied to get the best result in a competitive environment - none are necessarily reflective of day to day street car.
The dyno library is most useful for Soarer dyno days - a whole bunch of Soarers at once, same day, same dyno - this makes the most useful comparison. There are a large number of people with custom installs of 1UZ-FE V8's in hotrods and other cars who also find this information useful. These people don't give a toss about the Soarer or it's accessories - they only care about the engine bit.
http://planetsoarer.com/dynolibrary/dynolibrary.htm
It is rare that single listings of one Soarer by itself is posted.
No-one is judged as "welcome" or "not welcome". Every Soarer dyno day organised here will be posted if I get the information.

As for the V8 versus TT thing it is always amusing. The "sports value" of different spec Soarers can be measured by many sticks.

If the measuring stick for the "more sporty" auto Soarer was lap times at Phillip Island Circuit or Mallala then there is not much to split the two.
A bit old now but
http://planetsoarer.com/PINov03/pinov03.htm
and
http://planetsoarer.com/circuitsoarers/circuit.htm
show similar "sporty" lap times for V8's and TT's.

If a 150rwkW heavy V8 can match a 240rwkW TT at the circuit which one is more "sporty" ?

Is "sports" best measured at the drags, on the street at the lights, on a public road through some twisties or on a circuit?

"Sports" should be measured by the grin on the drivers face
