i have just recently had a problem with putting the wrong coolant into my soarer and somehow caused it to leak all over my engine bay. what is the best coolant for high performance cars like the soarer ?? tectaloy has a green 100 coolant which it says is used for high performance engines and high stress engines. and there is also a red coolant which says it is a replacement for cars with red coolant and is excellent for cooling engines. does the soarer come with red coolant from factory ?? also should i use the high performance green coolant or the red coolant ?

hey on the subject i have run out of water and coolant in my radiator while the car isnt being driven. it has been sitting in the garage for a few weeks leaking coolant all through my engine bay and on my garage floor ! my overflow bottle and radiator are completely out of water and coolant. it is very hard to see where they leak is in my engine bay. i have cleaned my engine bay filled it back up several times but i cant see where it could be leaking from.... anyone able to shed some light ?? i can take a few photos of where the coolant has dripped so you might be able to tell where it is leaking from yes ??

From past experiance with tectalloy coolants as a mechanic of 20 years. KEEP IT AS FAR AWAY FROM ANYTHING ALUMINIUM AS YOU CAN !!!!!!!!!!!!. I have never seen anything cause more damage if the concentrations are not exactly right or if the coolant is not changed extremely frequently than tectalloy in fact I would use bore water before I used tectalloy. Toyota long life is fine castrol coolant is fine mitsubishi coolant is fine hell we even use the generic repco concentrate at work with no problems just do not use anything with a tectalloy label

oh ok well then i will change coolant immediately. anyway on the subject of the coolant leak, it always reaches the same place at the bottom of the engine bay but i cannot trace where it is coming from .... i will put up some pics of where it leaks onto and maybe someone can help.
also as you know i have an empty radiator. the tectaloy bottle says to fill the radiator with only coolant and no water is this true and is it ok for my car ??

I used Tectalloy GOLD for about 6 years, 300,000km in my camry with zero issues.
My brother used it in his VS V6 for years without issue had a tendency to overheat with OEM coolant on hot days, no longer a problem with Tectalloy GOLD.
The top tank split on the camry after 280,000km and the radiator core was perfectly clean. There was no signs of deposets, no signs of corrosion where the radiator hoses enter the block which is common of a poorly maintained coolant system.
I can only say from my experience I would recommend it.

Damian thats has to be more good luck than good judgement. I know for a fact there are 2 engine / head reconditioners and 1 radiator supplier in Adelaide who will not wear warranty for a corrosion or gasket failure if tectalloy coolant of any size shape or form is used. If you want a interesting experiment take a piece of old copper radiator tank and a lump of aluminium drop it in a correct concentration of tectalloy in a bowl with a little bit of each item exposed. Then stick a multimeter between the two and have a look at how many millivolts is created due to electrolisis. Then do the same experiment with oem coolant or even tap water the results are pretty interesting. I know I sent the tectalloy rep away with a flea in his ear and got the crap out of a workshop I started managing pretty quickly with that demonstration. Infact we have 1 full and 1 half full 20 litre drum of tectalloy gold we inherited when we took a workshop over a couple of years ago and myself and the other 2 mechanics refuse to use it even for personal use even though its free as we have seen the damage it does first hand.

Having worked for Toyota i know it is the only one to use (it is really important), its like the type 4 auto fluid do not use any other make for the UZZ 31 auto.

i use nulon ultra cool, with demineralised water. For motorsport use etc and change every 10-15 k works better than tec and aux fan barely kicks in on hot days.

just checking there is only one type or toyota red coolant isn't there ?? i went to toyota the other day to get some and when i was there i noticed another type of coolant and it said for high performance engines and was about twice the price. would this be a better option ?

I use Nulon Red as I can't get Toyota red. The last time I went to the trouble of getting Toyota red fluid in (to Norfolk Island) it was premixed 5l and cost me $35 and was promptly lost when the new water pump I had had fitted was replaced as it had a faulty bearing. Mind you, the cap leaked on the new Nulon fluid in the 4WD on the way home from Carnarvon, and Nulon replaced the purchase price, which turned out to have been more than the Nulon fluid would have been in Exmouth at Autopro.
It hasn't been in the car long enough to comment on its performance, but it did replace green fluid which was all I could get on Norfolk Island. Thoroughly flushed (including heater) and concentrate topped up with demineralised water (which we make at work) run through a carbon filter for high purity. The town water here is horrible and would stuff an alloy head in no time. Unfortunately, I had access to extremely pure water on Norfolk Island (the hydrogen maker was a different type to present one) and 15 litres of water was lost each month during the monthly performance check (not lost when I did it- I put it into a container!).
