That might be a good reason to have el-crappo jumper leads :-)

Yes Peter, there is no reason to ever use super huge jumper leads unless you are in a real hurry, jumpstarting a truck, or the battery is rooted.

Now this makes me ask what size amp cables should be used for battery relocation to the boot.

I have heard from others that have done it that they have had problems or even a lower idle, ( not sure why that would be).

Biggest bastard you can fit in there
Notice I did not use the plural. You only need one for battery positive. The negative can go to car body (no wiring is as thick as that!). Just make sure engine block/gearbox etc are properly connected to chassis.
"0" gauge should be big enough. Especially for V8 starter.
Perhaps charging problems can be overcome by running alternator regulator sense wire directly to battery; haven't tried that 'cos I've not had the problem.
One car I know of had trouble with HID headlights not firing up properly at idle (a quick rev sorts that) and we eventually fitted one of those very large capacitors designed for audio in the engine bay which cured that problem completely (this was easier at the time 'cos I had a cap lying about; the regulator sense wire fix would have technically been better but not as easy to do).
