I have been looking at lots of Soarer pictures and I suddenly noticed that some of the non EMV cars have different stereos. Any one know what the diff is? Is it just the year and the layout or is there more to it?

Here are some pics of 2 different stereos and a link to a third.

The one in the link and the last pic look like they have the single CD built in. Would those have a stacker in the back as well?

Also there is the non-stacker tape only, and my car has the single CD/TV/Navigation LCD.

There are at least five different non-EMV setups in the early models, the two shown have two different versions for with/without sub. There is a pov-pack one that has no CD at all and built-in amps. It all depends on what options were ticked when the car was ordered.
The link is the late model Pov-pack with built in amps. It has CD.
If it has CD in-dash then there is and can be no stacker unless it is aftermarket FM modulated type with a separate remote control.

Half the owner's handbook covers all the different stereo permutations. Both our Soarers have single in-dash CD, but the pov pack one has the rear sub-woofer. The stereos are different in the controls too, as you'd expect made 2 years apart.

If it's the later model with the sub then that's a different stereo again. Late models have even more variants.

The one in the first pic.
There is a pov pack unit that looks the same but does not have CD button. It has built in amps. It is not easy to change from this pov pack version. Aftermarket is easiest for them as the speaker wiring is up front at the head unit.
All the others are readily interchangeable in early (pre 1996) model cars. The wiring loom behind the head unit is different for each model but is easily changed for the right one. All cars except the pov pack have the wiring for the stacker whether or not they had one fitted from the factory. The head unit for the stacker is the one that is a straight fit with the US Lexus (Nakamichi or otherwise, there is no difference in the Nakamichi head unit except the logo in gold on the front; the difference in the Nakamichi system is in the amps and speakers).
The US unit has correct FM band for here but AM doesn't work properly (like; 'who cares?').

Does the one in the top pic any good? Does it have an amp?

Sorry, but what is a pov pack?

Alfred, the term "Pov pack" means the Basic model, or the least expensive version

I changed from the 2nd one to the 1st one in my Soarer. As Mark said, if the right model, and you can get the system cheap off of someone, it is not a big job. Definitely worth it.

And now the Lexus one will be a straight plug-in.
They are relatively cheap too
