I've had my car back for sale online for a few weeks now. It's been in the trader for the last two.

For those that don't know the car see this link:
http://www.carsales.com.au/pls/carsales/!cs_content.private_vehicle?vehicle_id=3002096

Anyway, was offered $11k tonight, not because there was anything on the car that was picked on, but because that's all they want to spend.

If you want to fault the car here it is: one pin dent outside, one crack in the LHS doortrim, paint on the coil cover is flaking off. The car has high-ish kays for an import, but looking at the overall condition, you'd have to agree that they're genuine. Compression test was done < 3000kms ago and was perfect, plus there would have to be an easy $5-6k of mods there.

So am I expecting too much or are the bargain-hunters getting to me??

I have seen it listed and thought it was a fair price.

If you need the money take it, if you can wait give it time and you might get more but given the state of the market I doubt it.

Bollocks, anyone who buys a car that is that old and believes that it has sub 100k's because the odometer says it does is kidding themselves.

Perhaps if the market could be changed in this country to ignore odometer readings and go by the actual physical condition of the vehicle you might see the real value of cars on the second hand market.

FYI mine has 201k

your car has not high-ish kays.......most other soarers have been clocked back.
It looks good and is worth at least $12k
however in real terms is only worth what others are prepared to pay for it

Yes I know it's bollocks. The average Australian car travels 20,000kms/year, but you know what I mean.

Looking at the for sale section, I see my car as a bargain. If I was after a TT, mine is the one I would buy out of all those listed.

If you even consider, for one second selling your car for $11000...i will BITCH slap the out of ya
WHY...because i would have snap it the up for that much! ... now i drive a Celsior, that i bought for $11000
For the work that has gorn into that car, and the power it has, it shouldn't sell for less that $13000 at very least.

$12,500 is a very realistic price for that car. Perhaps even a little generous when you weigh in the extra factory options...

As Greg says, they are only worth what someone is prepaired to pay. There is quite a few for sale at the moment, so it is a buyers market.
All depends on weather you are in a hurry to sell.

There are two main factors against Soarer sellers at the moment and the two are likely to be related.

1. Fuel prices are rising and that situation isn't likely to change anytime soon.

2. There are HEAPS of Soarers for sale at the moment.

Also factor in a couple of other things.

1. Used cars are incredibly cheap overall at the moment.

2. Early model (1991) Soarers are now 15 years old and, as I understand it, can be brought in from Japan without a lot of the previous compliance costs being a factor. That takes around $2,000 or more off the cost of compliance (should now be around $1,000 instead of $3500+), although the government is now charging GST on some fees etc that they previously weren't.

And, everyone wants a brand spanking new, used Soarer from Japan!! It's true

These days, I buy cars for the long haul. I never expected to have my Soarer for any less than 10 years. It ends up being way cheaper in the long run!!

Dont forget another Main reason for Imprts not selling easily anymore.....

P-Platers Cannot Own/Drive/Insure them!

Simple as that. This in NSW means anyone from the ages of 17-20/21 at the bare minimum. For many years, it was easy to be 18 and borrow $20 grand from the bank and go and buy a turbocharged import. Now they are not allowed to. So, there goes almost half of your popular sales market straight away.

So now all the people trying to sell Turbo charged cars have lost a very accesible avenue to a market in which they needed to help sell their cars.

No P-Platers does take quite a number of people out of the equation.

Although i do believe in restrictions, but hey. As I always say..." But officer, Whats to stop my mate here pushing 150km/h down the Great Western in his Stock Standard Hyundai?"

I always drawn a blank look at that one, hehe!

P.S. My first car was a turbo intercooled 2L 4 cylinder Cortina that ran 13.7 @ 105 mph... Gotta love bein 17 and doing that :-)

Daniel -> I'm in Adelaide, no restrictions here, also I work for a Credit Union (a bank if you like) and AFAIK it is impossible to get secured finance on an import, which has always limited people to around a $10k loan unless they have something else to offer as security.

Ollie -> I agree with you on all but your last point. The "15 year rule" has been scrapped and does not apply to any car built after 1988, all Soarers are now complied under the RAWS scheme.

Your credit union won't, others will. From memory Capital Finance do for example :-)

24hrs after I posted this ad, I got a call (car was in the trader). Took the guy for a ride and the right offer was made :-)

The car reversed out of my driveway for the last time half an hour ago!
