TryHard SA Iv'e started to put my interior back together!!!

Spent the ENTIRE weekend stripping out my interior and replacing most of it with that of Adams recently deceased UZZ31. Would have had it all done by now, except for the fact that after my carpet got drenched that fateful day, we found out the following... It caused some of the sound deadening on the floor to go mouldy, that black bracket that supports all the electric gizmos on V8 ltds had started to rust and there was a nest of some description next to the ecu! Ergo most of the weekend was spent using baygon, chlorine and phosphoric acid. His carpet was fair dirty in parts so we attacked that with a tin of Karpet and a bucket of warm soapy water. Crap weather on the weekend facilitated the use of a heat gun to dry it out. New stereo power, speaker and rca cables have been laid waiting the arrival of my new sub. Thermo fans have FINALLY been worked into the ecu controlled thermoswitching circuit. Custom made a loom to work in the lcd mirror and light up sun visors. Extra sound deadening is on its way for behind the rear seat. When I get off my arse next (think I've done enough for a while!) I will customise the electric seat looms so I can install the leather seats as it turns out that the V8 memory seats have substantially different plugs that those of the TT. On a lesser note, we found out what that creaking in my front end really was. Always thought that it was the bushes, as they are KNACKERED. As it so happens, it is actually the front left CALIPER MOVING!!! It seems to be pivoting on the top bolt, ie the bottom end swings up and down by about 1/4". This is rather interesting as the lower bolt is still attached. Yet another unsolved mystery that warrants an investigation. Stupid me forgot to take pics along the way, even after making a special effort to hijack mum's digital for the weekend. I'll post some pics up when it's more towards the finished side of things. For those of you Adeladians that know what my interior used to look like (and Lew), you'll know that this is one small step for a soarer, but one giant leap for me. Oh and just for you're info Tamatha, you were right. There was some female intervention involved, I have a few friends that have offered quite reasonable incentives for me to hurry up and finish putting it all back together. Now I just need to await the arrival of my new airbox so I can get onto making that carbon heatshield. Then I can start flogging them off to you guys so I can fund the rest of my mods

GEEEEZUZZ NEIL!!! All of that just for a manual conversion? I didnt take it nearly that far! Mind you, it would've made getting that fricken clutch pedal in a whole lot easier... You know what I love about that pic though?? The interior door light is still working on the passenger door

Hehehehehe, Mine was at a similar stage. I had No seats, carpet, door trims, rear 1/4 trims, headlining, seat belts and parcel shelf!!! Anyone got a tute on how to remove the crash pad (ie the only part left in Neils dash)? I have a new one one the way as mine has a massive bubble in the middle. Wouldn't know where to begin with that one though...

You people must be really bored! Are you sure that your cars will work after this?? I was installing a height controller in mine and i had to take the back seat out. For me that was a lot of work to be done on a car, i guess for you 2 that is a half-hour job that you do for fun

It takes like 2 mins for the rear seat Nick, but then again I've done it at least 20 times by now

Dan, you can be the master mechanic of a mobile pit crew (as seen on the last cruise) but for me it takes time and nerves. I had to take it out 3 times and it pissed me off each time. I hate those plastic clips. You can't take your anger on them

Back seat, I've got that down to the seconds now, including the time taken to undo the bolts! Bored, not really, just an essential Hard to concentrate on the road when you're constantly sniffing mould spores and have bugs living in your heater ducts!!!

Haha, I guess I can do it in the seconds also... the 2 mins that I quoted was my leisurly-hungover-with-a-back-pain speed. On any good day I can race ya Ben Master mechanic eh? Hmmmm, you haven't seen me breaking things yet have you Nick

That's right Shane. If I didn't stuff something up I would probably take out my seats 5 times instead of 20. Or if I didn't polish my woodgrain I wouldn't have broken a clip off it, which as a result I wouldn't have to take it apart again two weeks later to fix the annoying rattle this had caused, and then finding out that that didn't quite fix it and have to do it again. Yadda yudda yadda, let's just say I've spent a lot of time inside my car messing around with a screwdriver haha Look at it this way Nick, at least if I ever do something else on your car, the clip that I would have probably had broken on yours, I already broke on mine, and I won't make the same mistake twice so you're safe

Hahahaha, Neil and i can be pit crew for auto trimmers, drive in and 30 seconds later we'll have your car stripped and you'll be on your way!!! Either that or I could start a new career as a chop shop manager and have the cars parted and on their way before the cops arrive

I specialise in the entire interior now, I think that there is no panel (outside of the crash pad) that has not been removed from my car at some stage for some reason or another!

Glad to see you haven't given up on the female species. Always thought that once there was an interior, and it didn't look like you were trying to kidnap a poor lass, your luck would change. Must say was a little suprised that you got her all back together over the weekend, she really was a mess when I saw her Sat night. Say thanks to Adam for me for the switches, have saved me a lot of time hunting down where to get them. Got them put in the next morning and car now happy. Will be getting around to organising something in August (after end of financial year - extreme workload), so hope to see your baby looking all dressed up again. (At last your cat is now safe)!! Let Adam know I haven't forgotten about him, just a little distracted with work and mum (going back for yet more surgery Monday). But will catch him when everything calms down. |

Hehehe, haven't given up on girls altogether, yet. Always funny to see the look on some of the models that I take to and from shoots when they get in the car, especially the one that is used to being ferried around Rome in a 360 Modena. At least I can bring a smile to peoples faces As long as they, and all you guys too, know that I'm trying to get it done, that's al that really matters isn't it?
