hey guys, just wondering when bringing stuff from america, is it worthwhile? i had a post in mechanical, and my mate is insisting on buying a GT30r from atpturbo.com. it is $1350 for turbo, $95 insurance and shipping and then 10% gst. Is that all the costs associated? also has anyone heard of the brand and are they good?

The 10% GST is on total landed cost, including shipping then there is a 10% duty tax on the pruchase price.

I estimate about $1,800 landed. Trade off the saving against risk (faulty product) and support you would get locally.

my dad has imported some stuff from america and he said although he maybe cheaper to buy stuff from america. by the time you have paid shipping and everything else on top you don't save yourself any money and it can work out more expensive.

You can save Adam. It depends on the item and the deal. I saved over 30% bringing in items for my Lexus (see is300 mods in my profile). The wheels were not available locally and the distributor here wanted almost as much freight to ship each wheel as I actually paid to ship all four wheels and tyres together.
