Hey guys i know nothing about air cons and such so im a bit stumped by my problem and so ill try and describe it as best i can to make it easier for you guys to tell me whats wrong.
Ok so i get no heating or cooling (possibly cooling but air is not that chilled). I can turn the fan speed on from lo to hi and have it at 18 degrees up to Max and there is not difference. When i push the auto button and the temp is set low the fan speed slowly creeps up until its max but when i have it above 25 degrees as set by me, when i bush the auto button the fan speed is set at nothing on the screen and nothing happens.
I want to get a regas to see if things improve, what do you think smart move or waste of cash? What else could be a possible reasons for this, leak, condenser stuffed?
Also just on a side note when pushing the auto button this makes the car reach the given temperature and maintain it right? Well how come it switches around from which vents get the air, like dash, then going to face and feet, then going to just feet and when i adjust it to have it directed at face and feet the auto function turns off/gets canceled. Anyway around this problem to always having it set on face and feet and not having it adjust it automatically?

Hi David , According to my Soarer Multi Vision Screen Manual (-probably the largest waste of cash so far on my vehicle- at least everything else I've spent money on was a quality item and was manufactured with pride unlike the manual) The Auto Temp Button -only automatically alternates which Vent the air comes out of. The Auto Knob only Dials the desired temperature. I'm looking for someone in Townsville who really Knows not just says "Yer mate bring er in and I'll fix er" and eight billable hours later says "Gee's mate I dunno." Good Luck David

A/C normal operation is:
Push Auto, A/C comes on, system looks at what temperature you want then makes some choices.
If the air outside is warmer than what you want, it switches to recirc, otherwise to fresh.
If you want to warm the car, it directs the air downwards, as heat rises.
If you want to cool the car, it uses the vents as cool air sinks.
The fan speed depends on how much temp variation you want compared to what the temp is already, and on how much heat/cool is available to the A/C, eg if the car has just been started and you want to heat/cool the cabin, the fan won't start immediately as there is no hot water/chilled refrigerant available. As the hot/cold resource becomes available, the fan speed will increase until it gets close to desired temp when it will slow down again.
All in all, it's a pretty clever system.
Does that help you? Probably not, but it's my understanding of what to expect at least.
If the A/C gas is low, the A/C won't switch on which may be a factor.
Does it behave normally when heating? I got a little confused from your original post.

Thanks Peter that outlines all the features which some i didnt know. As for my problem the fan speed doesnt ramp up when set on heating but ramps up in speed when set below 23 degrees or lower. However the air is still warm and is just cabin temp but been blown. I think a regas will be good and any leaks should be found, hopefully none and all that is needed is the regas.

David as your air con is not cold when you go for a lower temp it puts the fan on faster as its trying to quickly fill the cabin with cold air ,as Peter says its doing the best it can with no cold air.

Another thing to note, and Ive just been looking at this. Is how the hydraulic fan is switched on and off via the air con. The V8 uses the hydraulic fan for both aircon condensor and radiator. Anyway, I think its good to check normal operation there as well, as far as I can tell it comes on as soon as you switch aircon on. Now this must be controlled via the ecu. Once road speed is a set level it switches off (thats an assumption) as it doesn't seem to be regulated by temp, and will keep running when at standstill. This won't have any bearing on aircon at steady cruise speeds, but start stop traffic on a hot day, will definitely cause some issues.
