I know this sounds like a very weird and noob question, but since I've gotten the tt soarer 2 years ago, there has always been a layer of dust everywhere from the vents, to be more specific, dust like a grain of sand. I'm not sure where in the vent piping its coming from. Does anyone know? Has anyone else had this problem?
I'm getting sick of it, I took out the passenger side of the dash, cleaned cabin filters, attempted to get into the piping, cleaned as much as possible. Still having the same problem.
I am just worried that it is something more serious that I should be worried about, maybe an air con seal gone rotten? heater core issue?

pollen filters are there... I've cleaned them twice in the last year since they were black... doesn't resolve the issue though. I'm just dreading taking the entire dash apart to go through all the vents... I've also seen bits of what looked like insulation and insulating foam... is there anything in the ducts that could fall apart like this?

It the sealing foam in the three black plastic dash vents breaking down. Remove the vents and remove or remove/replace the foam. Very common problem in Soarers. Having no foam makes the vents whistle when they are closed. It will eventually stop if you run the fan enough.

You don't need the foam, all it does is stop the vents whistling when they are closed. Obviously some air is passing through so you've lost a small amount of temperature control, but the cabin is so small I doubt anybody has ever noticed.
You can get replacement vents from Toyota but they are not cheap. I'm working on an aftermarket foam replacement but they will not be ready for a few months as I'm too busy at the moment.
