i have just had my AC system regassed after finding out that my condensor had a hole punctured into it. what my question is, now when i turn the AC on the compressor engages but then disengages after 1 second. i know it isn't ceased as i can turn it with my hand. is it possible that too much gas could fool the system into thinking that it is ceased? any ideas would be appreciated. thanks

Dave, i know for a fact that bubbles means that it is low on gas, when it is clear it is ok. the only reason why i am thinking that it is overfull is that when the system reaches a certain pressure, it disengages. thus if it is overfull it may already be at that pressure.

There are usually a number of inputs into the climate ECU that will dictate whether the compressor is run.
These are usually pressure both high and low, engine speed, a number of temp sensors, compressor speed.
It's pointless trying to diagnose the problem externally - whoever has replaced the condensor and regassed it should ensure that it is working correctly before handing the vehicle back.
Not sure how you can regas the vehicle without having the compressor running really.
Matt.

thanks guys for all the input, but you will never believe it. i went to the place where i got it re-gassed, had a chat to him about the problems, first of all he said he put in .6kg of gas in, and i said to him that the system will most likely not run with less than .8kg of gas. so anyway i left the place about to go to an auto electrician, turned on the car, then the aircon, and low and behold the compressor stayed on, and got exceptionally cold really quick. so i went in and told them that it was now working, so he put the rest of the gas in the car, did a thermometer test, and the test was 6.9 degrees at the vent, which is exceptionally cold, the pressures are all good so seems to be working fine.... touch wood.
once again
Thanks all

ahh hate to pee on your parade but my tt that i regassed the air on myself recently before i sold it ( i am a mechanic ) was pulling down to 1.5 degrees and my v8 used to pull down to 2.5 degrees. My ed foulcan pulls down to 4 degrees and that has not had the a/c touched in the time I have had it I just did a check recently to see if it needed a service before summer starts. At 6.9 degrees if I was doing a a/c service at work it would be border line for me to look for a problem

the chap said, anything less than that on a day like today in QLD, (30 - 35 degrees) would be problems as that is about 1.5 degrees in the pipes, any less than that you would get ice up the condenser / evaporator and cause major problems. i am happy with that and it much better than what it was doing, blowing hot air from outside.
