For some time I’ve had an issue with a faulty brake fluid level message which I was unable to resolve, then over the last couple of weeks a fresh issue emerged.
On two occasions, with my foot clear of the accelerator, the car steadily built up high revs on start up and then fluctuated a couple of times before I turned it off. On two other occasions, the car stalled while stationary at an intersection. On all occasions the car re-started without any further problem that day.
As a result of the new issue I took advice to clean the throttle body which turned out to be well and truly overdue. I thoroughly cleaned as far as my fat fingers allowed but the situation really called for a dismantling and a deeper clean.
Job completed for the time being, I went for the test ride and, as I had been warned, it ran terribly. It also alternated four error codes; brake fluid, engine, coolant and tail lights. When I had finished for the day all of these problems were unresolved.
A couple of days later I set out to give it a hard run to clean out the residual gunk but hey presto! It now performs beautifully and the error codes had disappeared. In addition, the change into top occurs later and the idling settles down initially to 800 and then 600 revs sooner than it had been doing. I also suspect that the air conditioning which I had recently re-gassed is now working and that my blood pressure has been lowered.
I believe that the ECU re-calibrated itself. Apparently this can also be initiated by disconnecting the battery or removing the ECU fuse.
I really appreciate the huge amount of information that people have provided via this site and hope that this is a meaningful addition.
