I'd have my money on it having been an Alfa.

Before we get too carried away with bagging the journo I'd be interested to see exactly how good an article any prospective armchair critics could come up with at short notice and with the tight deadlines that most journos work to, on a subject you know little or nothing about at the outset.

It would be reasonable to expect journos to have either decent general knowledge (if they are a general news reporter) or reasonable specialised knowledge (if they are reporting something topical, like automotive or horse racing). Other than some car nuts (whose expression, spelling and grammar is awful- check out the car magazines) most stories on cars are pretty bland, if not simply incorrect, like this (Soarer) one largely is.

I see or hear pathetic inaccuracies by journalists all the time- my favourite is a tablet of cuneiform writing (that's the one where a cut reed end is pressed into wet clay in various way- earliest known form of writing) was described as Sumatran.

Even a yobbo like me who left school at 15 knows it's Sumerian:-)

Ollie:

Alfetta, of the deDion rear suspension, rear mounted waffly gearbox, rust and gorgeous gorgeous little engine with DOHC and dual twin-choke Webers; an engine which rewarded you just for mastering "The Knowledge" required to start the damn thing while coolly looking as if you had always expected it to go

I hear what you're saying Mike and I'm not trying to condone mediocrity however given the article was just a Friday afternoon newspaper article (albeit in the motoring section), it's not THAT inaccurate. I've seen glaring errors regarding the specs etc of Soarers when detailed in the likes of High Performance Imports (HPI) magazine which I'm far less likely to dismiss given the publication is supposedly a specialist Japanese import publication written by journalists who allegedly specialise in the field.
