I have never understood the point of wheel offsets. Reading up around here, everyone says you should have a +38 offset on your wheels. Why??? The reason I ask is that I am going to trade in my 19" ROH Furys for a set of 18" Starcorp Racing Impul. Love the deep dish.
If anyone can explain this to me, a thanks in advance.

The factory offset on a soarer is +50. This basically is a measurement from the hub face to the inside rim (I think), If you have too little offset the wheel will stick out too far and rub on the guard and to much offset it could rub on suspension components. BTW, Nice looking wheel. Just beat me.

Offset can affect the feel of a car. I run 38 offset on the track and 50 offset on the road. The force on the wheel is noticeable. With the 50 offset the car glides effortlessly. With the 38 offset greater force is required to steer and bumps affect the wheel greater. Very noticeable when changing the wheels. After a bit is seems normal. http://planetsoarer.com/offset/offset.htm

Kylie and I are running 32 offset on both cars (that's how we bought em), one handles sweet, one did tramline but that was fixed with Vlamos bushes and removal of buckled rim.

I had 32 offset generic 18"s on my Soarer, cheap Falken tyres and original 12yr old bushes on my Soarer
And it didnt tramline one single bit. I could steer with one finger and i never had any problems. I think offset is just one factor out of many that can cause tramlining; it is not the *only* cause...
I have a bit more tramlining in my current car but that is to be expected with wheels this big.
One final note from me though. The RTA website states that you cannot alter your track by more than 25mm (god knows why?!) Changing offset is directly related to your track. Change offset by 1mm and your track will be changed by 2mm (1mm each side). The lower the offset the wider the track, so this means you cannot legally change your offset by more than 12mm on each side. For cars that come with high offsets from the Factory such as the soarer, this means that the lowest legal offset you can put on your car is 38mm

This is one of those things that is *very* hard to verify. And considering the Soarer is an Import there may not be concrete data available. The offsets stamped on the wheel cant incriminate you because wheel manufacturers don’t all specify offset the same way (there are minor differences and they are not all accurate).
I havent heard of anyone being defected for that, but it was something that I picked up on while reading the rules about aftermarket wheels on the RTA website. The annoying thing is, an engineer cant even certify changes in track, its something *soooo* holy that there isnt any way around it (an engineer can certify a custom built car that has never been crash-tested, yet a change in track is something that is beyond them??)
In fact, thinking about it, if you want to run wildly different offsets, the only way you can do it is to modify the chassis or sub-frame of your car so that your car can be classified as a "Custom Built" car. Then it can be engineered based on structural rigidity and stability rather than the silly 25mm rule...

John,
you have just made up my mind, I'm getting a set. You wouldn't have a side shot would you? Also they are 18x8.5 front and rear, or do you have the 18x10 on the rear? Also what offset are they exactly??

I'll take and post some shots tomorrow, they are 18x8.5 all round, I'll check the offset tomorrow also.A word of advice, i have 235's on them , but 245's would look better
Steven, where are you getting these wheels from? Also, were you at a meet with some of the AY and TGS boys @ Rhodes one time? I thought I saw your Soarer there (I had the black 97).
